Traditional festival dedicated to the commander Garibaldi
The memory of the Hero of Two Worlds with music, fun and fireworks
Giuseppe Garibaldi , known as the Hero of Two Worlds, left from Cesenatico to reach the city of Venice, which was then part of the Austrian Empire.
At that time, the port of Cesenatico was well equipped with ships and boats of all kinds and our leader set sail on August 2, 1849 with twelve bragozzi and a tartana.
Saturday 6 August at 9.00 pm from the Vecchio Squero on the Porto Canale the traditional Palio della Cuccagna will be held between the Cesenatician districts which will parade, starting from Piazza Costa at 20.30, accompanied by a musical band and in segutio involved in a race concerning the ascent of a 14 meter long pole covered with grease.
The Palio will be preceded by a "cocomerata" in front of the Municipal Fish Market.
Sunday 7 August, at 9.30 there will be the historical parade of the Garibaldini through the main streets of the center up to his monument in Piazza Pisacane, one of the first in Italy and one of the few in which he is portrayed in an upright position.
We continue with a visit to the old house on the port where Anita Garibaldi found rest and stop in front of the memorial stone in Piazza Ciceruacchio.
Finally, the famous excursion will take place aboard motor ships and boats with multicolored sails to the third, accompanied by the throwing of crowns among the waves in memory of the event.
The event will end on Sunday 7 August at 22.00 at the free beach in front of Piazza Costa where there will be a show of musical fireworks over the water .
